Raise Your Glass, Time to Celebrate!
March is here and it’s time to cheer! We are in the 3rd month of what is the best year of our lives, 2020. With March brings a new beginning, Spring is right around the corner, and also my birthday (3/18, yay!). As many may know, my love of bubbles started way back when I would have afternoon sipping of Veuve Clicquot with my British wine mentor, slinging Cristal and Ace of Spades, and drinking Prosecco when things got hard.
In so, I am so excited to share with you one of the loves that brought me to this industry-Champagne and Sparkling wines. I am going to give you my top 6 Champagnes, Sparkling Wines you must try! The order is based on price, not by rank.
Always remember, no matter what life has to throw to you there is always room for Champagne! Best, Maggie
OMG, pick up a bottle of this sparkling rose from Italy! If you are a Graham Beck Rose, Veuve du Vernay drinker this is a must try. The fruit on this sparkling rose is exquisite with soft floral notes.
A family winemaking tradition going back over 500 years, Raventos understands the relationship between human and nature central to the winemaking philosophy by using biodynamic farming. Blend with 40% Xarel-lo, 32% Macabeu, 28% Parellada, this Extra Brut Cava is a grower Cava which is an unicorn in its own right. Created with elegance, this sparkling wine hits all the notes.
3) Val de Mer Brut Non Dose by Patrick Piuze $23.99
This sparkling wine is explosive! 100% Chardonnay, loaded with calk minerality gives it that punk rock edge and planted on limestone, clay soils in the town of Tonnerre, France. No added sugar (Non Dose), you gotta love that!
4) Voirin Jumel Tradition Brut NV $32.99
A grower Champagne, hits all the classic/traditional notes of Champagne in a modern world...yeasty, bready, toasted nuts, with added cherry blossoms. This Champagne is like pie! Do yourself a favor, grab a bottle or few before the tarffis get to it.
5) Pierre Paillard "Les Terres Roses" Rose Extra Brut $69.97
Okay so, I have been in a low sugar-non dose kick and Pierre Paillard from Bouzy, France has become one of my favorite grower Champagne producer for their Extra Bruts. With the romance of Spring, this Champagne brings a delicate elegance, finesse in structure with a slight touch of fruit. Pairs well with lobster and birthday cake.
6) Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 2007 $99.97
Again, 100% Chardonnay! This Champagne hits everything I love about white wine and Champagne: citrus, white fruits, minerality, toasty-nutty notes, elegante-lively bubbles. If this is heaven I want to live and bathe in it!
