97pt Rioja Gran Reserva 2012 $24.97!
I have a weakness for aged Spanish wine. In fact, it was my first introduction to older bottles, so nothing hits the spot for me like a Rioja with 5+ (or more) years on it. Gran Reserva then, is perfect since to qualify it must be aged a minimum of 5 years before it can be sold! The problem is usually the price, but not today! We have a 2012 (so 8 years of age) Gran Reserva Rioja from Coto de Imaz for $24.97! And that's not all, it also got an amazing score from Decanter Magazine of 97 points. I'll leave an excerpt below on how this wine has been recognized amungst its peers: "Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva 2012 has been honored as "Best in Show" after receiving 97 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2019, standing out among the top wines in the world as the only D.O.Ca Rioja wine to win the award. 16,500 wines were submitted to compete in this year's event. (...) Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva is crafted with tempranillo grapes from the winery's own vineyards, located in Cenicero for over half a century. It is barrel aged for over two years then rests in the bottle for three further years, seeking to capture the traditional essence of the great Rioja wines." "Without a doubt, our Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva was chosen as the best thanks to its finesse, elegance, and complexity. Cheers!" Stay safe, stay healthy and drink well. Tim Alberdi Redneck Wine Crew
