A solid version, with plum pâte de fruit, black cherry reduction and boysenberry paste flavors that form the core. The frankly toasty finish has nice cut, flanked by apple wood and licorice root notes. Best from 2025 through 2037. 3,000 cases made.

Cocoa and violet aromas are followed by flavors of dark plum, espresso grounds and chocolate. The tannins are persistent into a long finish, where a fresh crackle of black pepper emerges. Approachable and full of flavor.

The Foley Johnson winery is situated in a prime location on Highway 29. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers up standard-issue notes of dried herbs and ripe cherries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate lacks a bit of concentration. It's supple, silky and easy, pleasant, with decent length but nothing more. At least the price is in line with the quality (by Napa standards).

Winemaker Notes

This Napa Valley Cabernet is a wonderful expression of the classic Bordeaux varietal as well as the terroir of the Napa Valley. The nose exhibits complex fruit aromas of plum, blackberry and a hint of strawberry, combined with brown sugar and forest floor. The aromas carry through to the palate of blackberry, dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Medium rich tannins are present with a long velvety finish.
