Winemaker Notes
Wine of nature and characteristics similar to Brunello di Montalcino, with a deep ruby red color, soft and rich, with a bouquet of extraordinary freshness. Aged in oak barrels for a year, it will mature comfortably, improving in the 3/5 years following bottling, becoming even more refined and elegant.
The Rosso di Montalcino from Molino Sant'Antimo comes from the same vineyards as the Brunello. It just spends less time in oak. A Brunello has to spend at least 2 years in oak and age for 5 before it can be released where a rosso only has to be aged for a year with no stipulation for oak. This makes them fresher with more bright red fruits. There is also a floral element that is lost with etended oak aging. Here the wine shows all that great red berry fruit with some rose hints. A touch of spice and italian herb round this wine out. Truly a great example of Sangiovese.
