Winery Notes

Sylvain Langoureau is one such producer who is still remarkably unknown for the excellent quality of wines he produces. It is located in the village of Gamay, in the Saint Aubin appellation. It is Saint Aubin with which Sylvain initially made his name. However, he also owns some sticks in the southern tip of Meursault, near the village of Blagny. Although this village itself is located in Puligny (where Sylvain also has a premier cru vineyard), some of the vineyards around Blagny fall into the AOC Meursault. The premier cru vineyard La Pièce sous le Bois is one of them.

La Pièce sous le Bois is located at an altitude of about 330 meters, with the slope facing east. The vineyard is planted with older vines, which, in combination with the calcareous soil, creates complexity in the wine from this vineyard. Because the plot is sheltered on two sides by trees (as the name suggests), the vines have just a little more food available, which makes the wine just a little richer in some years.
