Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac 1989 - 750ml
90pts Wine Spectator
A vibrant '89 with a wonderful fresh fruit character. Dark-ruby color. Very fresh aromas of blackberries and plums. Full-bodied and packed to the brim with fruit, adding fine yet slightly green tannins.
Winemaker Notes
Medium to deep ruby red. The nose is tight & quite un-yielding, restrained cassis is overlaid by cedar notes. The cassis fruit on the palate is initially lifted & fresh, thanks to good acidity, then plentiful grainey/cedary tannins cut in. The fruit is more lively and supple than the nose suggests.
Deep, dark, practically opaque, ruby-red. Aromas are very ripe with high-tones dark fruit. The palate has a good weight of high-toned, ripe to over-ripe dark-cherry fruit. Acidity is soft, depth of fruit is pretty good & length is OK.
