95pts James Suckling

A cool site with meager topsoil, Sechet is a cru that serves warmer years well, delivering tension and refinement. Very linear, showing typical Chablis character along with its vibrant acidity. Aniseed and mint with hints of toast and chestnuts. More delineated and voluminous than so-called classic vintages, but still pulls the saliva and tingles the tongue in readiness for the next glass. Excellent showing of this wine. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

94pts Wine Advocate

The 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp stone fruits, ripe lemons, white flowers, clear honey and subtle hints of warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, cool and satiny, the vintage has lent this a gracious charm that isn't always typical of young Séchet, but the wine's searingly mineral signature remains front and center.

93pts Decanter

Showing a bit more richness at the moment, with wood character coming through. Thin 30cm soils above the limestone bedrock contribute to the finesse. Crisp citrus acidity, very much a thoroughbred but needs time.

93pts Burghound

An airier and mildly cooler nose reflects notes of mineral reduction, white flowers and the hallmark citrus influences. The sleeker though not denser middleweight flavors possess a more refined mouthfeel as well as more evident minerality that seems to build on the bitter lemon-tinged, dry and sneaky long finale. Lovely stuff.

92pts Jasper Morris

A fuller yellow with a dry sandy peppery stony bouquet. Definitely a tense dry and not especially full-bodied palate, with dried apples to the fore. Quite long but could use more body if the Séchet site allowed it. I shall take a small bet with myself that this wine will be a lot more exciting to taste in a year’s time. Currently an overly severe rating perhaps. Drink from 2029-2038

92pts Vinous

The 2022 Chablis Les Séchets 1er Cru, due to be bottled in November, has a detailed, slightly nutty bouquet that unfurls with aeration but is perhaps the more bashful of Dauvissat's cuvées at this stage. The palate is beautifully balanced with touches of pistachio and yellow plum. It is a little spicier than the Village Cru, with a persistent and peppery finish. One goes away with the sense of a Chablis that will bide its time.

Winery Notes

One of Chablis' most prestigious proprietors, René Dauvissat, with his son Vincent, farms nearly twenty-three acres of meticulously kept vineyards, all in Premier Cru appellations. These vines (4.5 acres of Vaillons, 2 of Sechets, and 9.4 of Forets among the Premiers Crus, 2.5 of Preuses and 4.5 of Clos among the Grands Crus) are splendidly sited on hillsides underlain by Jurassic limestone. Yields are limited to about 50 hectoliters per hectare, modest by the standards of the region. A loyal following among France's most esteemed restaurateurs sharply limits the availability of Dauvissat wines for export. Nonetheless, it is no surprise that they have attracted the praise and attention from Hugh Johnson, Alexis Lichine, Robert Parker, and Anthony Hanson. "This talented winemaker makes it look almost too easy, routinely turning out intensely flavored, incisive wines that manage to be both accurate to their terroir and long on personality. While the wines can be austere in their youth, they have a track record of aging superbly." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
