96pts James Suckling

Behind the funky and smoky nose is a very elegant wine with a lot of lemon and herbal freshness to balance the taut, muscular body. Great drive at the crisp, long, mineral finish. Drink or hold.

Winemaker Notes

Grapes from the best parts of the oldest vineyards. Long period of vegetation and very late harvested. Very fine Riesling, perfect clear fruit-aromas. High density and typical minerality. Perfect ability for maturation

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery is located in the municipality of Bockenau in the Nahe wine-growing region in Germany . It has been run by Hans and Karin Fröhlich in the fifth generation of the family since the early 1970s. Son Tim has been responsible for viticulture since 1996. The vineyards cover 21 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Felseneck and Stromberg (Bockenau), spring place and Halenberg (Monzingen), as well as Felsenberg and Kupfergrube(Schlossböckelheim). They are planted 85% with Riesling and 15% with Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The reduced-yield grapes are selectively picked by hand. The wines are fermented spontaneously in steel tanks and matured in the typical location. The product range includes estate wines, local wines and wines from VDP.Grosse Lage according to the VDP classification . The winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikatsweingüter) since 2001 .
