As with the 2016, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is going to be a brilliant value. Subtle background oak, lots of smoky, earthy dark fruits, medium to full body, and a richly textured yet vibrant texture all emerge from this incredibly impressive 2017. It will keep for 15+ years.

A barrel sample blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc expected to age 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is very deep garnet-purple in color and reveals a nose of crushed black cherries, blackberries and cassis with hints of violets, redcurrants, garrigue, wild sage and beef drippings. The palate is medium to full-bodied and intensely fruited with a lovely savory core of fruit and plenty of red fruit sparks, finishing long and structured.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a potent, savory wine. Cedar, smoke, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance as this dark, layered wine gradually reveals its considerable charms. The Cabernets in the Amici range are all strong, but if I had to pick only one wine to focus on, it would be the Reserve, as the blend of sites is truly magical.
This 2017 Amici Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon highlights the lush, ripe fruit and Rutherford Dust of valley floor vineyards, along with the structure and ageability of Napa Valley’s best mountain appellations.
Aromas of blackberry, black currant and powdered cocoa give way to notes of lavender, soy and herbs de Provence. Texturally, the wine is expansive and concentrated, showing flavors of dark baker’s chocolate, dark cherry and caramelized vanilla. Tannins are round, lush and fine-grained, and excellent acid drives the wine through its fresh, long finish.
