The Wine Advocate
Jensen's 2013 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard is a beauty! It possesses a medium ruby color and sumptuous notes of mulled cherries, raspberries, dusty earth, spice box and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, richly textured, balanced and lively, with good acidity and a great finish, this is a terrific Pinot Noir to drink over the coming decade.
A fascinating feral quality wraps around this wine, redolent of mottled animal hair, raw meat and scraped earth, like the scene of a freshly hunted wild boar. Aromas of mulberry and dark strawberry also show on the nose, while the palate dives deep into turned earth, shiitake mushrooms, juniper, stewed bay leaf, wild cherry and elderflower liqueur. The acidity also pops and the texture grips firmly. EDITOR'S CHOICE
Medium-weight, with a firm, tannic start and modest red berry and tea flavors, gaining complexity and depth while maintaining delicacy and restraint. Ends clean and elegant.
2013 Mills Vineyard Pinot Noir possesses an alluring and deep, meaty bouquet of dark fruits, wet slate, white pepper and redwood bark. The palate is concentrated and bright with intense red fruit. Very fine grained yet taut tannins are beautifully integrated with dark black cherry, cranberry and a whisper of black licorice with a wonderfully persistent finish.
