93pts James Suckling
Here’s a Valpolicella Ripasso that reveals such complexity on the nose — from oyster-shell to forest-floor notes and preserved lemons —before you even notice the bulwark of dried blackberries and blueberries. The medium-to full-bodied palate has Bordeaux-like polish and effortlessness, easily rolling through layered blue fruit and spice undertones. Excellent value.
Fresh wine was refermented on the Amarone pomace to create a smooth, elegant wine with an aromatic bouquet of ripe cherries. Mara Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso boasts a persistent, warm finish with round tannins after aging in large Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months.
Blend: 75% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 5% Molinara
