3 barrels were made from 56 ares, which is about 12 hl/ha. Half the vineyard has been pulled out since for replanting. A full almost imperial purple. The nose has an ample generosity with all the come-hither charm of Amoureuses. In common with the other 2021s here, the Amoureuses has a wonderfully lifted finish, with a few of the orange inflected citrus notes, but a little more rounded and riper than the more angular Bonnes Mares. A fine long finish. A great debut. Drink from 2027-2035.

Monsieur Lupatelli reported that a significant portion of the domaine’s holdings in les Amoureuses have had to be replanted after the 2021 harvest, so this already limited bottling is going to become more scarce starting in 2022, as about a third of their holdings have been grubbed up. The 2021 Amoureuses has turned out beautifully, showing a transparent and black fruity personality on the nose, offering up scents of plums, black cherries, pigeon, a lovely base of chalky soil tones, bitter chocolate, woodsmoke, a touch of stems and a lovely framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and complex, with a lovely, sappy core of fruit, excellent transparency, fine-grained tannins and a long, seamlessly balanced and elegant finish. Outstanding juice. 2033-2085+.

94pts Decanter

This wine is a lovely, textbook example of Amoureuses, with fragrant red and black berry fruit, rose petal floral notes, and a bit of spice. The texture is plump and approachable without the reserve of the Bonnes-Mares. It has supple tannins, balanced acidity, and a luxuriously long finish. Production is extremely limited since Lupatelli has convinced the owners to replant one-third of the vineyard. The winemaking is also being renewed and is now done in small vats keyed to the size of the holding. The attention to detail is evident in this wine.

94pts Tim Atkin

This is the last "complete" showing of these 56 ares for a long while. After the 2021 harvest, Jean pulled out one-third of the vines as part of his extensive vine renovation plan. The new vines will go into the village wine for 15 years, he estimates. This 2021 is charmingly perfumed with roses and strawberries. Light mid-palate dryness gives this some grip, but it's followed by cleansing, mouthwatering acidity.

94pts Burghound

Note: from a .56 ha parcel where approximately one-third of it was pulled up after the 2021 harvest A much spicier and more elegant nose offers up its array of plum, dark currant, lilac, rose petal and exotic tea hints. The rich but highly energetic medium-bodied flavors seem to be constructed on a base of almost pungent minerality, all wrapped in a moderately austere, sour cherry and impressively long finish. This very classy effort should repay a decade plus of keeping. Burghound Outstanding!

94pts Wine Advocate

Wafting from the glass with notes of wild berries, roses, exotic spices and plums, the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and perfumed, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, aromatic finish. The vines here are infected with leaf roll virus and produced only two barrels from over half a hectare, a derisory yield.

94pts Vinous

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, reduced to three barrels (see producer profile) has a fragrant bouquet with ebullient red fruit, hints of cassis, iris and peony. Very fine definition and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins and fine acidity. This is a strict and linear Amoureuses, pure, yet maybe missing the flamboyance that a more benevolent season would bestow. Moderate length. Give it 3-5 years in bottle.

Winery Notes

Many domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years, to 1450 and the Chambolle vines of one Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation--Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogue.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is inextricably linked to the Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny, considered by many the pinnacle of Pinot Noir. Until 1936 the vineyard was conveniently split into just two climates--a narrow east-west track splitting the climate of Le Musigny from the more southerly and slightly smaller Les Petits-Musigny. The domaine ranks among the very best Burgundy houses.
