95pts Decanter
Here at the base of the slope, Sauzet farms 0.7ha in fairly dense clay soils. The result is a wine that is rich indeed, with ripe apple fruit, an element of honey and roasted hazelnut. The palate is massive, almost fat, although it is not flabby - there is still acidity here, yet it is rich. (CC) (11/2021)
93-95pts Vinous
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet les Referts 1er Cru is more backward on the nose compared to Sauzet’s other Premier Cru, though it opens with aeration, hints of pressed yellow flowers, saffron and citrus peel. The palate is very taut and focused, the oak beautifully integrated, hints of apricot and Clementine towards the oh-so-pretty finish. This will be gorgeous once in bottle. (NM) (12/2021)
91-94pts Allen Meadows - Burghound
Here too there is a vague whisper of the exotic on the aromas of white peach, passion fruit and floral whiffs. The refined, punchy and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors coat the palate with dry extract while displaying very fine persistence on the balanced and tightly wound finale. This stylish and generously proportioned effort has enough mid-palate fat to permit early accessibility, but the finish makes clear that it has the stuffing to age effortlessly. Burghound Outstanding!
