93pts James Suckling
Plums, dark cherries, graphite and spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with round tannins. Creamy and full on the palate. Balanced and savory with a long, creamy finish. Nice freshness with citrus at the end. Drink or hold.
92pts Vinous
The 2018 Bonarda El Enemigo Single Vineyard El Mirador comes from an old pergola vineyard in Rivadavia, east Mendoza, planted in deep soils and aged for 12 months in ancient . A rich purple in the glass, the ripe nose offers raspberry and sour cherry jam with hints of herb. On the palate, it’s broad with gentle tannins and a moderate to fresh juiciness that lends character and depth before the fruity finish.
91pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I tasted the 2018 Bonarda Single Vineyard El Mirador from Rivadavia next to another bottling that was blended with 15% Cabernet Franc, and this was completely different, more varietal, with some rusticity and juicy fruit, a soft and round palate with very fine tannins. It was bottled into 6,200 bottles in June 2019 after spending one year in centenary oak vats.
Winemaker Notes
Creamy oak creates vanilla-like aromas to go with plum and berry scents. This Bonarda is raw and pulling in feel, with severely dry tannins. Blackberry and oak comprise a limited flavor profile, while this tastes mostly of oak and wood grain on a grabby finish.
