Vineyard Notes

Guerila Pinela is a white wine made by Zmagoslav Petric in the Vipavska Dolina Valley, in Slovenia, following biodynamic precepts.

The Pinela variety is a variety that is believed to be original from Friuli, where it has practically disappeared and today it is grown mainly in the south of Padua, where it is frequently part of Prosecco, and also in the Vipavska Dolina valley in Slovenia, where Guerila is the main producer. It is a variety with very thin skin and very susceptible to botrytis, which Zmagoslav Petric is able to cultivate biodynamically in the Pri Pila and Preske vineyards. Macerate briefly, press gently and let the must settle. Native yeasts and spontaneous fermentation. The wine spends 6 months in steel and concrete, bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfur. It is a wine of beautiful intensity, fine, with notes of yellow fruit and some minty note. It conveys well the minerality of the vineyard and is very easy to drink and very versatile.

Pinela is the personal project of Zmagoslav Petric, the son of farmers who at the age of fifty decides to return to farming because, as he says, you can separate a man from his land, but you can never take the land from his heart. So, in 2005, he searched for the most suitable farms to grow the native varieties in the Vipava Valley, and turned to biodynamics to produce some of the most energetic wines in Slovenia. Small productions, wines with great personality but at the same time very easy to drink and that, in addition, are very digestive.

Winery Notes

Guerila vinery and vineyards are located on Planina. A sunny hill in Vipavska dolina region on an altitude between 250 -450 meters above sea level. On 20 hectars of vineyards we work in full respect of nature. In the vineyards and in the cellar biodynamic practices are the rule.

No chemical product is used in the vineyards and in the cellar. Biodynamic compost and biodynamic preparants are used to increase the natural resistance of the plants. All the fermentations are spontaneous and all wines are unfined and unfiltered. At bottling only minimal quantity of sulfites is added to the wines if needed and nothing else. We declare exact total level of sulfites on each wine. Zmagoslav Petrič, born in 1956. He inherited the family vineyards from his father. In the year 2000 new vineyards are planted and the first wines are bottled. In 2005 the estate got the name Guerila.  Organic agriculture has been practiced since beginning. In 2011, Zmago attended his first course in biodynamics, which made a strong impact on him. Since then at Guerila, everything has changed. Guerila biodynamic wines are born.
