93pts Tasting Panel
From its fragrant wild strawberries bathed in tilled soil to aromas of spiced oak, the aromatics alone are inspirational. Brambly cranberry is juicy to the core. This Pinot has an innate freshness revved by high-toned acidity. It finishes with the romance of rose petals and Italian herbs.
This wine opens with complex aromas of cherry, strawberry and pomegranate with hints of toasty oak and white pepper. On the palate it shows expressive flavors of ripe berries with slight notes of sage which add complexity and depth. Balanced acidity and gentle tannins lead to a long complex finish.
After the fruit has been carefully picked and sorted, it is fermented in open-top stainless steel tanks. It then ages for up to 11 months in a selection of small, 60-gallon French oak barrels. When the wine is ready to be blended, our winemaker selects only those barrels that exemplify the aromas and flavors of the Santa Lucia Highlands.
