92pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Barrel fermented and aged 14 months in 40% new French oak, the 2016 Chardonnay Soberanes Vineyard gives very pretty honeysuckle, orange blossoms, almond croissant and allspice notes over a core of grapefruit and white peaches. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich, creamy, seductive and packed with layers, finishing long and nutty. 150 cases produced.
91pts Jeb Dunnuck
Coming from the Santa Lucia Highland AVA, the 2016 Chardonnay Soberanes Vineyard offers a Chablis-like perfume of Meyer lemons, white flowers, and citrus zest to go with a medium-bodied, nicely balanced profile on the palate. Bottled unfiltered (the color is a touch cloudy), it has plenty to love and should evolve gracefully for 4-6 years, probably longer.
This lively unfiltered wine opens up quickly with an elegant bouquet of spring flowers, peach skin, key lime, sea breeze, and stone fruit, as well as hints of crushed rock from its origin in our mineral-driven Soberanes Vineyard. Aging for 14 months, the resulting wine is both pure and focused, with beautifully integrated acidity and oak. This wine has great volume and lots of length on the palate and will gain depth as it ages. It drinks well now, and also has the ability to age beyond a decade.
