It has a medium ruby-purple color and unfurls dramatically on the nose: initial wafts of damp earth, mushroom and conifer give way to intense layers of red and black cherry, plum and pomegranate. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated yet elegant, flooding the mouth with layers of crunchy red and blue fruit. Its tannins are refined and lacy, its vibrant acidity adds tension, and it has a very long, dynamic finish. Steve founded Occidental as a small, family brand in 2011, and built a state-of-the-art winery just east of the town of Bodega overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
