89pts Wine Spectator
A polished version, with candied cherry and cranberry aromas, underscored by hints of spice and rose. The tannins are firm and a bit grippy, so give this some time to integrate. Best from 2021 through 2027.
87pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Pale ruby in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir Kara-Tara begins with aromas of light red fruit, raspberries, strawberry and cherry skin, with soft red florals. Medium-bodied, the wine is more mineral and tart on the palate with a compact structure, before ending with a pleasing, straightforward and subtly spiced finish that lingers in-balance.
This wine has the classic strawberry and cherry fruit you expect from a Pinot with a touch of peppery spice that is typical of Elgin. The 2017 vintage was warm and dry, thus producing very small berries which gave the wine great concentration of color and flavor together with a firm, yet silky and elegant, tannin-structure and lovely brightness of fruit.
