Sleeping Lady Vineyard
97pts Jeb Dunnuck
From an up and coming site readers need to keep on their radar, the 2016 Cabernet Franc Sleeping Lady is all varietal and was fermented and aged 23 months in 70% new French oak. It’s a full-bodied, concentrated, yet powerful Cabernet Franc that has the varieties complexity front and center, giving up loads of crème de cassis, chocolate, damp earth, and exotic flowers. With considerable elegance, a beautiful sweetness of fruit, no hard edges, and a great finish, it’s unfortunately made in tiny qualities but is well worth seeking out.

The 2016 Cabernet Franc Sleeping Lady is a gorgeous wine that captures the essence of The Debate's house style beautifully. Ample and full-bodied on the palate, the Franc from Sleeping Lady is sumptuous, rich and also wonderfully nuanced for a wine that offers so much intensity. Blood orange, red cherry and floral notes all convey the grace and finesse that is such a signature of this Yountville site.
The coolest and most elegant Cabernet Franc site of the bunch. The balance and acidity must be protected to make this site shine. We consider this wine as Fred Astaire because it is elegant and classy but shows humor and fun.
BECKSTOFFER TO KALON
99pts Jeb Dunnuck
The Cabernet Franc from this site can be magical, and this delivers the goods. An incredible perfume of violets, lavender, incense, and black cherry and blackberry fruits give way to a powerful, layered, deep, yet weightless expression of Cabernet Franc. Made from 100% Cabernet Franc that spent 23 months in 70% new French oak, it has remarkable sweetness of fruit, awesome purity, and a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel that needs to be tasted to be believed. Give bottles just a few years in the cellar, and it should evolve gracefully for 15-20 years.
98pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Made of 100% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Franc Beckstoffer To Kalon comes sashaying out of the glass with drop-dead gorgeous potpourri, lilacs and cinnamon stick scents over a core of kirsch, warm red currants and blackberry preserves plus a waft of forest floor. Full-bodied with a rock-solid frame of ripe, grainy tannins, it completely fills the mouth with energetic red and black berry layers plus bold freshness, finishing very long and very minerally. 80 cases were made.
The 2016 Cabernet Franc Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is fascinating to taste next to the Francs from Sleeping Lady and Stagecoach. The To Kalon Franc is especially savory, with plenty of herb, leather, smoke, chocolate and tobacco nuances intermingled with a core of dark fruit.
The most famous and uniform Cabernet Franc site of the bunch. Beckstoffer To Kalon consistently shows off wines with granular tannins and a full-bodied mouthfeel. We consider this wine as Robert Redford because it is as beautiful as it is rugged and as thoughtful as it is intriguing.

Winemaker Jean Hoefliger has a magic touch with Cabernet Franc, and his 2016 Stagecoach is another head-turner. Perfumed notes of blackberries, cassis, and forest floor all emerge from this more medium to full-bodied, silky, seamless red that has fine tannins and a great, layered mouthfeel that expands on the palate.
The 2016 Cabernet Franc Stagecoach Vineyard is another glorious wine from The Debate. Mountain tannins give the Stagecoach Franc much of its distinctive personality. Red cherry, plum, chocolate, menthol and licorice all build as this super-expressive, distinctive wine show off its personality, of which it has quite a bit.
The highest altitude and most concentrated Cabernet Franc site of the bunch. Stagecoach Vineyard shows powerful wines with both density and acidity. We consider this wine as Chris Hemsworth because it is powerful, dense and sexy with a true sense of place.
