95pts Tim Atkin
Year in, year out, this is one of the best white blends in the Cape, made in a Pessac-Léognan style but with nuances that are all its own. Mealy, salty and subtly wooded, it combines Sauvignon Blanc with 30% Semillon to brilliant effect. Long and complex. 2019-25

A blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, the 2016 Director's Reserve White begins with classic herbal and green pepper notes from the Sauvignon Blanc with underripe apricot and pineapple. The palate is mineral driven with a waxy, leesy texture, the Sémillon making its debut. It is well structured and complex with a long finish. It aged nine months on the lees in one-third new French oak.
The nose shows stunning complexity with fruit notes of ripe quince, passion fruit all intermingled with hints of lemon grass, toasted almonds and freshly baked brioche. The wine enters the palate full and rich reminiscent of the aromas on the nose.
