94pts James Suckling

A very impressive, dark-fruited style with plenty of violets and an impression of richness from the outset. This nails the dark-plum and gently peppery style with a very smoothly delivered and concentrated palate that holds long and is full of flavor. Drink or hold.

91pts Wine & Spirits

Malbec’s violet and blackplum tones get a lift from this wine’s coastal acidity. It’s a juicy, spicy red with stamina, a little tense and reductive for now, needing a splash in a decanter and a grilled strip steak. Best Buy

90pts Wine Enthusiast

Just as in Bordeaux, Malbec in Margaret River is mostly blended away. It’s fun, therefore, to see this variety both on its own and drinking so deliciously. It offers an appealing combo of red berries, earthy spices, cloves, licorice and cedar, all wrapped into savory, taut tannins.

89pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

One of the few sub-$20 Malbecs I've found worth writing about, the 2017 Voodoo Moon Malbec has an extroverted nose of violets and purple berries. It's medium to full-bodied, juicy and fresh, with bold fruit flavors that carry through a gently tannic finish. No, it's not the most complex offering, but it offers a lot to like over the next few years.

Winemaker Notes

Valued for its amazing depth of color, generosity of fruit expression and fullness of flavor, Malbec has found the growing conditions of Margaret River ideally suited to producing full bodied wines of great depth and character - unsurprising considering the similar climatic conditions experienced by

Bordeaux and Margaret River.

Sourced from a single vineyard in the sub-region of Wilyabrup, Margaret River from mature vines, the Voodoo Moon used traditional winemaking techniques to achieve full color and extraction. The wine is matured in 100% French oak barriques for 12-15 months before final blending is completed by Michael Kerrigan and Nick Stacy. The resulting wine is dark, deep purple in colour and has a brooding and perfumed bouquet. The palate is rich, layered and textured - really fills the mouth with its immense power and weight, but retains its finesse with long, soft integrated tannins.

The Vinaceous Voodoo Moon will cellar and improve for 8 - 10 years, but equally appeals as an immediate drink - match with roast meats, braises and mature cheeses.
