Some sweet spice from aging in 30% new French oak frames up the pretty rose petal and cherry fruit flavors. Though it's a light wine in weight and persistence, the alcohol nears 14%. This is the best of the 2018s from Coelho, enjoyable now and through the next half decade. PAUL GREGUTT

A slightly lifted edge to the nose with sweet cherry and raspberry notes on offer. Light herbs and integrated oak spice, too. The palate has smooth, fleshy appeal. Layered and resolved. Drink now.

Winemaker Notes

Brooding and mysterious, the 2018 vintage is a blockbuster of a wine. Dark fruited at the core, there is a tea and dried herb quality that adds layers to the aromatics. The heavily concentrated palate is a result of the struggle that the plants experience on top of the Delfina Vineyard. Berry flavors transition to elements of Russian Caravan tea and finish with a robust, but refined, tannin structure.
