This tour-de-force captivates from the beginning with oh-so velvety smooth texture and a cornucopia of exquisite flavors. A modern-day version of the most classic Bordeaux blends
93pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Displaying a deep garnet-purple color, it delivers compelling notes of blueberry compote, raspberry pie, boysenberries and plum preserves plus suggestions of star anise, clove oil, bay leaves and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it is chock-full of juicy black and blue fruit in the mouth with ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.
92pts Jeb Dunnuck
A beautiful nose of ripe currants, black cherries, toasted spices, new leather, and candied violets gives way to a medium to full-bodied Merlot with a supple, elegant texture, solid mid-palate depth, and a clean finish ... it has an elegant, lightly textured, nicely balanced style that makes it a joy to drink. It should keep well for 10-12 years.
Winemaker Notes
A Majestic Offering - murasaki, meaning purple in Japanese, also signifies the color of royalty. This wine appropriately follows suit with its opulent purple hue and expressive, delicate essence. murasaki is Kenzo Estate’s homage to the Merlot-influenced blends from Bordeaux’s famed Right Bank producers. Alluring, supple, elegant.
Here we have one of the finest expressions of the exclusive Kenzo Estate terroir, blended from select barrels of the vintage. The 2018 murasaki sets itself apart from the moment the wine hits the glass: here, robust aromatics create a heavenly cloud of black cherry, cocoa, and spice fragrances. Flavors are delivered in a multi-layered assemblage of minerality, dark red fruit, and soft, luscious tannins. The textured aesthetic of 2018 murasaki provides ample reason to call this wine a classic, enjoyable now in its youth, and ageworthy into the distant future.
