94pts Vinous
The bouquet on the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Amore e Magia is seriously impressive. A beguiling mix of dusty violets, exotic spices, cedar, cloves and black cherries wafts up and holds my attention firm. The textures are soothingly plush yet lifted, featuring a sweet and sour display of tart wild berries contrasted by minerals, minty herbs and hints of candied citrus. The tannins arrive late as this finishes structured and classically dry with nuances of blood orange and wild strawberries. The 2017 Amore e Magia has taken the warmth of the vintage in stride to deliver a Brunello packed full of balanced pleasures. That said, production was down by 50%.
94pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Full-bodied and savory, this has alluring aromas of baked plum, fragrant blue flowers and forest floor. Concentrated but also endowed with a beguiling weightlessness, the smooth, enveloping palate delivers juicy black cherry, raspberry jam, licorice and espresso set against velvety, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2023–2029.
Tasting Notes
An intense ruby red, richer than wines from our other vineyards. On the nose it expresses itself as a symphony of aromas ranging from the intense smell of blood orange and violet to the fresh balsamic note of aromatic herbs. The expression of this vineyard is characterized by a creamier and silkier texture combined with a fun and vibrant salinity. | The 2018 vintage was milder with some refreshing rains in early September. The wines from this vintage are certainly rich and Mediterranean, but we think that with appropriate cellar management, making greater use of the concrete rest, they will still offer an interesting dynamism. And a long aging period.
