Tasting Notes
Funaguchi has a rich, full-bodied flavor yet with a refreshing clean finish. unlike conventional sake
Japan’s no.1 Nama-Sake Aged 1 Year at low temperature. Being a Nama (Draft:Un-pasteurized) Sake the enzymes are still active and over the course of a year, they allow Aged Funaguchi to acquire a heavier mouthier feel, richer, more robust flavor and slightly velvety texture compared to the fruity freshness of Original Gold.
Being un-pasteurized, this can sake can be aged in your own fridge as long as you lilke. After 1 year or so, the flavor will turn mellower, fuller developing velvety mouth feel. You'll enjoy a completely different experience than when you try it fresh.
The aluminum can packaging is designed to protect the delicate, unpasteurized sake from light and air. Plus, the 200ml fill reduces the air exposure inside the can.
Brewery Description
Founded In 1881
The name “Kikusui” derives from a Traditional Japanese Performing Art. The name, Kikusui, is made of two words – kiku, which means “chrysanthemum,” and sui, which means “water.”
In Japan, there is a traditional performing art known as Noh. In one Noh play, called Kikujido, there is a character, a mountain hermit, who drank the dew that had collected on the leaves of a chrysanthemum plant, and lived to be 700 years old. The water of the chrysanthemum gives perpetual youth and longevity, and it was from this that the Sake brand, “Kikusui,” was born.
