99pts Luca Maroni
San Marzano ‘Edda’ Bianco is straw yellow in colour with golden reflections. On the nose, ripe peach, smooth vanilla and floral notes perfectly balance the fresh lime, mint and herbal complexity. The palate is generous and full of elegance, freshness and minerality. This wine is beautifully rounded with an exceptional well-balanced palate.
Tasting Notes
Straw yellow colour with golden reflections; mellow citrus fruits and delicate vanilla floral notes fill the nose; to the taste it is generous in its elegance, fresh, delicate and mineral.
Pair with starters, first courses with fish, and cheese.
Winemaker Notes
Edda (‘she’ in Salento dialect) is the feminine and sensual soul of San Marzano. It is a complex white wine, full of Mediterranean notes. Noticeable acidity intertwined with an enveloping and elegant warmth, savoury and mineral notes on the palate. The Chardonnay grapes give the wine finesse and longevity, together with different varieties indigenous to Puglia, that year after year compete to complement the blend.
San Marzano is a small village in the centre of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region, a strip of land kissed by the two seas of the Salento: the Ionian and the Adriatic. In 1962 the DOC appellation did not yet exist, and the Primitivo di Manduria was far from becoming a cult wine for wine lovers. Even so, 19 winemakers came together to follow a dream and founded Cantine San Marzano.
Blend: 60% Chardonnay, 20% Fiano, and 20% Wild Muscatel
