A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve sports a healthy purple/ruby hue as well as a powerful, concentrated, medium to full-bodied style that's going to benefit from bottle age. Giving up ample darker currants, smoked herbs, graphite, and spring flowers, it hits the palate with the more structured, linear style of the vintage as well as ripe yet building tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. It's impressive, but not for the instant gratification crowd. Give bottles a solid 4-6 years if you can and enjoy over the following 15-20 years.

The 2021 Rutherford Reserve is laced with the essence of blackberry, plum, licorice, leather and incense. Deep and resonant, with striking depth, the 2021 has quite a bit to offer. It’s the under-the-radar wine in this range, and it offers superb value for the price. 

Tasting Notes

Brilliant red and black fruit waft from the glass before crushed violet, espresso, and black currants light up the palate. Mouthwatering acidity and velvet tannins give this wine an elegant structure and an alluringly long finish.

About the Wine

The Frank Family Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a few prime vineyards in the Rutherford AVA. Our Winston Hill Vineyard is located on the eastern side of Napa Valley’s Rutherford appellation along the Vaca Mountain range. The hand-terraced vine rows have southwestern exposure and well-drained volcanic and sandstone soils that rise nearly 500 feet above the valley floor. Our Benjamin Vineyard is directly across the Silverado Trail from Winston Hill. This vineyard spans 87 acres with 70 acres planted with vines. Benjamin Cabernet adds depth and the classic “Rutherford dust” character to the Rutherford Reserve. A handful of our closest neighboring vineyards are chosen to finish out the blend.
