96pts Falstaff Magazine
A combination of grapes from two of the best sites in Napa Valley. From Beckstoffer's To Kalon and Caldwell Vineyard Block-15 on the volcanic soils of the Coombsville District. Deep, opaque young colour with purple highlights, brightening at the rim. An impressive bouquet of blackberries with floral nuances of dried rose petals, cassis and essential oils, and subtle savoury wood in the background. Complex, fruity and equipped with great depth, it has ripe tannins, dark fruit on the finish, and very good length. Already seductive, which will increase with bottle age
95pts Vinous
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant, precise and refined, all qualities that make it a real pleasure to taste today. Inky dark fruit, lavender, mocha and dried herbs flesh out in the glass, framed by grippy tannins that give the wine its shape. The 2019 is shaping up to be a real gem.
Winemaker Notes
Cultivated across two distinct slopes, vintner G.S. Sareen's property encompasses divergent soils and contrasting aspects, unifying to form a faithful expression of Rewa Estate. The vineyards are managed by Mike Wolff, whose skill has also been instrumental in the added prominence at Beckstoffer Vineyards, Scarecrow, Adamvs, Kelly Fleming, Vine Hill Ranch, and others. At the winemaking Helm is Celia Welch. Celia is truly one of the superstars of the Napa Valley, and in addition to Rewa, she also crafts the wines at Scarecrow, Castiel, and her own Corra label.
Rewa's Cabernet was crafted entirely from the Rewa Estate in Coombsville, Napa Valley. The hand-harvested fruit was picked by-block prior to dawn, fermented separately, and kept as discreet lots for approximately ten months. The wine was then blended and returned to barrels for an additional year of aging in French oak.
Deep and intriguing, 2019 Rewa Cabernet Sauvignon has an intensity, both visually and on the palate. The fruit is dark and speckled with milk chocolate, fig jam, caramelized sugar, and cherry wood. The vintage offers additional notes of sweet licorice, baking spice, dried marjoram, and lavender that are showcased in a wine of incredible structure. It is lifted by the grape's natural acidity and finishes with finely polished tannins. 2019 Rewa is worthy of any collector's cellar.
Another A+ for Celia Welch (Scarecrow, Barbour, Castiel, Corra, Lindstrom, 2480, Castiel winemaker)
Winery Notes
Rewa Vineyard is comprised of approximately 30 acres under vine. There are two distinct parts of the vineyard- the eastern side of the knoll and vines on the western side. The Cabernet Sauvignon planted on the east side (a cooler part of the property) is sold to several producers; this section is also planted to a small block of Sauvignon Blanc. All the Cabernet Sauvignon for the Rewa wines comes exclusively from the western side of the property – where Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec also grow. The elevation at the top of the knoll reaches about 400 feet and offers sweeping views looking south.
