Wine Spectator
An open-knit style, with ripe nectarine and orange flavors layered with sweet pea shoot and a refreshing streak of saline. The creamy, chalky close is detailed with white pepper and chive. Drink now. 6,000 cases made, 800 cases imported.
Vinous
The 2022 La Chatellenie hails from a flint-clay parcel, a soil type with a minority share in the Sancerre appellation. Expect a less fruity, fragrant interpretation. Instead, it evokes boxwood and elderflower. There's flesh on the mid-palate, but the steely rod of flint gives a sense of tension on the modest finish. This is a middle-of-the-road example that fails to excite.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow color with green hues. Intense mineral notes giving way to a fruity and delicate expression. Mineral and elegant mouth with aromas of pear and yellow peach bringing the aromatic and juicy side of the wine. Elegant salinity, well-balanced.
Ideal with white fishes, a creamy risotto with curry shrimps, a grilled crayfish or also with Crottin de Chavignol, an old Comté.
About the Winery
Our Joseph MELLOT family and winery have their roots in Sancerre: its history began 5 centuries ago with Pierre-Etienne, the first in our long line of winemakers. At the end of the 17th century, César Mellot was King Louis XIV’s Wine Adviser.
Over time, Joseph MELLOT expanded by acquiring new vineyards. Nowadays, our Portfolio includes a wide variety of wines from the Centre-Loire Region.
