95pts Wine Enthusiast
The nose is a first date in the '60s, drinking cherry cola and vanilla smoothies and trying not to spill on new leather car seats. The indulgent palate deepens into a more mature blend of orange and dark chocolate, with strident tannins and bustling acid creating a hot, peppery undertone.
92pts James Suckling
This has a pretty nose of peaches, plum stones, sandalwood, orange zest and white truffles. Fresh, fine and elegant, with a medium body and tight-grained tannins. Delicious peach and hints of vanilla at the end. Approachable already. Drink or hold.
91pts Vinous
A brooding mix of red plum, brown spice and crushed rocks is nicely offset by a flourish of violet florals as the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens in the glass. This washes across the palate with silky textures, as rose-tinged red fruits are enlivened by a core of vibrant acidity. The 2018 finishes potent and long, with nuances of tangerine contrasting tart wild berries, as hints of grippy tannin frame this Brunello nicely. This may not be a Brunello for the ages, but it should perform quite well through medium-term cellaring.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Opening to a lean garnet color, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is streamlined in texture with dried fruit, redcurrant and crushed flowers. It holds back in the mouth with a flavor profile that is short and faded in places. This 80,000-bottle production tastes a bit watered down.
Winemaker Notes
Intense ruby red, garnet tends with aging. Aromas are characteristic and intense. Dry, warm, slightly tannic, robust and harmonious. A wine with a high alcohol content and long aging, it is marketed in the fifth year after the harvest, after spending three and a half years in large oak barrels followed by at least 4 months of aging in bottle.
At the table it goes very well with game and meat. Excellent with aged cheeses, alone as a meditation wine.
Winery Notes
Purchased by Mr. Mauro Pacini in 1983 and upgraded with the most advanced winemaking installations, Fattoria la Lecciaia is a wine estate that combines a young, dynamic approach to the wine business, while strictly adhering to the antique traditions of Brunello di Montalcino. Located in "località Vallafrico" and surrounded by the vineyards of some of the most iconic estates of the area, the estate is in the center of the original micro-terroir where the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino was first produced. Fattoria La Lecciaia is a beautiful property of 60 hectares surrounded by the vineyards of some of the oldest and most renowned estates of Montalcino. The estate has 15 hectares of vineyards, of which 12 are registered for the production of Brunello di Montalcino. The rest of the property is under olives groves and woodlands. The unique terroir of this small but world-famous micro-area in the appellation of Montalcino, naturally enhances the scents and the elegance of Sangiovese grapes, allowing Fattoria la Lecciaia to produce the most quintessential "Brunello di Montalcino" wines: classic and intense, suited for long ageing.
