A tightly wound red, whose firm, wiry structure boasts a solid grip on the high-pitched cherry, raspberry and rose aromas and flavors. A mineral undercurrent works in tandem with the vibrant acidity, while the tannins feel chewy yet finely wrought. Everything comes together nicely on the expansive aftertaste. Best from 2029 through 2046.

The 2022 Beaune Les Grèves 1er Cru has a little more delineation and Pinoté on the nose than the Clos de Roi. There is a slight earthiness at play here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good tension. More mineralité is at play with a vivid, quite structured finish. This is a superb Grèves from Nathalie Tollot and her team.

This is ripe yet attractively perfumed with its broad array of red and dark berries, spice, pungent earth and a whiff of smoky character. There is much better volume and evident power to the medium-bodied flavors that possess notably better depth and persistence on the solidly structured finale. This well-balanced effort is not a monster of concentration but there is more than enough stuffing present to repay at least mid-term keeping and perhaps even out to 15 years. One to look for.

Winery Notes

Les Grèves is voluptuous and structured with aromas and flavors of bright red fruit and mineral notes. The flavor is intense and powerful but is delivered on the palate with finesse. Aging in 30% new Burgundian pièce brings notes of vanilla and spice. The vines were planted between 1969 and 1987.
