Layers of opulent aromatics lift from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Slope with fresh leather, boysenberry liqueur, violets, and fresh tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, with fully ripe tannins, a velvety texture, and a long finish, this is a bold expression with a luxurious polished feel. It has quite a bit of immediate appeal but has the structure to improve and develop over the next 15-20 years. Drink 2024-2044.
Immortal is a project of Tim Martin of Tusk in Napa, Randy Nichols, and winemaker Timothy Milos. Tim was drawn to the diversity of Sonoma and wanted to make a truly luxury wine on the other side of the mountain. Immortal is located just on the other side of Spring Mountain and is a terraced vineyard site on 55-degree slopes. The estate was officially rebranded in 2014. In 2020, they lost 30% of the vineyard to the Glass Fire, and no wine was produced that year due to the inability to farm the land safely. The 2018 vintage, however, was a year with very few heat spikes and allowed for even and long maturation.
Winemaker Notes
Our 2018 Slope is rich with dark brambly fruit framed by sweet spices, coffee, and chocolate, all carried on a supple yet dense palate. As the wine opens, it reveals layers of flavor: blackberry, blueberry, lavender, and spice cake, completed by black plum, sweet tobacco, black tea, Muscovado sugar, and espresso. While the mountainside tannins provide a dense framework to carry the wine, they are well-ripened, supple, and relax into velvet with decanting. Accessible in its youth, it will continue to evolve for decades.
