Tension, energy and power with black fruits on the nose - get some Left Bank character straight away. This has juice running through the palate, an excellent 2nd wine because you get the sense of minerality, elegance and freshness of Pessac. More classic than its bigger sibling, perhaps, but with personality and punch. Vines in Martillac, in a separate plot from the main Carmes Haut-Brion estate.

Tasting Notes

Le C des Carmes focuses on Merlot subtly complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is in the spotlight here, offering an elegant range of aromas. Drunk young, the wine develops a crisp intensity which will gain the patina of beautiful complexity as the years pass.

Vintage Notes

For this great vintage, Bordeaux and its climate imposed an important technical effort in the aesthetic quest for balance, in a context where the need for intervention was an important key to success. 2019 is thus proving to be a typical balanced Aquitain vintage, rich, dense and elegant, despite the extreme conditions incurred.

About the Wine

Ripened in the soils of Martillac, C des Carmes Haut-Brion is a beautiful prelude to pleasure.

Using a more traditional blend, C des Carmes Haut-Brion focuses on Merlot subtly complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is in the spotlight here, offering an elegant range of aromas. Drunk young, the wine develops a crisp intensity which will gain the patina of beautiful complexity as the years pass.

About the Winery

The new winery, designed by Philippe Starck and Luc Arsène-Henry, which opened in 2016, marked the start of a new era for the chateau. Combining art with state-of-the-art equipment, it embodies a new pursuit of excellence.

The winery, a wall of metal resting on the bed of the River Peugue, emerges dreamlike from the middle of the estate. Blending into the landscape thanks to the reflections that flit across its surface, it is both a feat of technical minimalism and a fitting memorial. By echoing the shape of a ship’s bow, it serves as a reminder of Bordeaux’s seafaring history: a place where the sea has made wine’s fortune throughout the world.

The central harvest reception area opens up onto the vat room where 1,200 hectolitres of wine are fermented in oak, stainless steel or concrete. Below, where water encircles the structure, some 300 barrels sit patiently in ideal maturation conditions. Finally, the top floor is crowned with a tasting room offering a vineyard panorama, where the year’s work can be savoured.

Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot
