92pts James Suckling
Lots of dark-berry and chocolate-bean aromas follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a juicy finish. A blend of 50 per cent merlot, 45 per cent cabernet sauvignon and five per cent cabernet franc. Needs two or three years to soften. Better after 2022.
91pts Vinous
The 2016 La Cardonne has a lively bouquet with red and black fruit, cedar and light mint aromas, quite Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, vibrant and quite precise with well judged oak towards the persistent finish. Looking for a Cru Bourgeois in the Médoc? Look no further. Superb. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.
91pts Wine Enthusiast
This 108-acre property has produced a wine with rich black-fruit flavors and dense tannins. It has a firm structure as well as a strong juicy element. It's ripe, full and likely to age well. Drink from 2023. ROGER VOSS
90pts Wilfred Wong
The 2016 Château La Cardonne is a classic and well-made Médoc. This wine shines with aromas and flavors of blackberries, licorice, oak, and violets. Try it with a roasted, well-seasoned chicken.
Winemaker Notes
Deep garnet red, with purple highlights. The bouquet mingles black fruits (blueberry, blackberry), spices and perfectly integrated wood. The palate is rich, round and fresh. Impressive and yet fine tannins, very promising. A long finish with vanilla aroma.
