Castello di Ama Chianti Classico 2023 - 750ml
Castello di Ama Chianti Classico 2023 - 750ml
95pts Wine Spectator
A refined Chianti Classico with firm, racy tannins that give length and beauty to this. Black cherries, blueberries, crushed stones and raspberries on the center palate. A small crop, so they blended all their top Chainti Classicos.
95pts Falstaff
Bright ruby red. Beautiful savoury notes on the nose, geranium, redcurrant, rosehip, raspberry, fragrant and bright. Compact on the palate, with fine tannins and wonderfully juicy, slightly salty, a sweet texture, leaves you wanting more.
94pts Vinous
The 2023 Chianti Classico Ama is superb. Then again, it is the only Sangiovese-based wine Ama bottled in 2023. Dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, blood orange, and pomegranate are all wonderfully delineated. Dynamic and vibrant in the glass, with superb character, the 2023 massively overdelivers. Readers who can find it should not hesitate.

Castello di Ama's Ama Chianti Classico from Tuscany is a refined, medium-bodied red wine crafted from 100% Sangiovese, offering aromas of ripe red cherry, tart cranberry, hints of wet stone, and subtle wild berry notes. This dry wine displays taut, energetic tannins and elegant structure that will continue to develop over the next five years. Serve it slightly below room temperature with osso buco as the wine's vibrant character complements the braised veal shanks, or pair it with pasta Bolognese where the wine's racy texture balances the meat sauce. Winemaker Marco Pallanti crafts this food-friendly wine from vines up to twelve years old planted at 525 meters elevation, where thin soils and cooling breezes create wines of remarkable purity and mineral complexity. This vintage represents a special blend of all their top Chianti Classico parcels due to a small crop, resulting in exceptional concentration and plush aging potential. This elegant wine with fine, textured tannins represents outstanding quality and will drink beautifully through 2031.
Winemaker Notes
Bright ruby red. Aromas of violet, redcurrant cherries and strawberries. A fragrant and harmonic palate with well-balanced fruity notes, polished tannins and fresh acidity. Fruity and harmonic, the voluptuous Ama Chianti Classico expresses all the elegance of the estate’s wines.
Ama is an old, fortified village situated near Radda and Gaiole in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. The Castello or Castle of Ama is surrounded by the beautiful Tuscan countryside and is near some of the original, noble families of the Chianti region. The meticulously cultivated vineyards are privy to optimal exposures and consist of fertile soils.
Ama is a modern estate comprising 500 acres of land, 200 of which are vineyards. These vineyards are divided into five important parcels; San Lorenzo, Bellavista, La Casuccia, Bertinga and Montebuoni. In the 1970s, four families formed a partnership and purchased the property with the goal of producing world-class wines. Castello Di Ama is unique, employing its best Sangiovese to produce Chianti Classico, unlike many Tuscan producers who have chosen to blend their best Sangiovese into Vini da Tavola or Super Tuscans. In addition to the acclaimed Chianti Classico produced in each vintage, the crus of Bellavista and La Casuccia are produced only in outstanding vintages and in extremely limited quantity. These wines in their concentration, harmony and overall elegance represent the best expression of Sangiovese in Tuscany.
