98pts Vinous

The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé marks a return to a richer style of Rosé following the more ethereal 2008 Rosé. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice and pomegranate all build in a creamy, sensual DP Rosé that hits all the right spots. Over the last few years, Chef de Caves Vincent Chaperon and his team have lowered the still Pinot portion of the Rosé down to about 10% from a high of 28% or so, reached around 2004 and 2005. In 2009, the Rosé gains considerable textural presence from the generosity of the year. It is a superb Champagne. I preferred it to the 2008, which was also part of this tasting.

97pts James Suckling

Peaches, fresh crushed strawberries and roses on the nose. Full-bodied and generous. Fine tannins that frame the wine beautifully and set it up for a fresh finish. Some fruit tea and cedar undertones. Enticing finish with hints of bitterness. Savory.

95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

In comparison to the charming, pure 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé, the 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé possesses a ripe, dense bouquet with aromas of dark berries, licorice, dried white flowers, toast and pastry, enhanced by delicate, racy smoky hints. Full-bodied, broad and rich, it’s dense and phenolic due to the approximately 15% still red wine sourced from grapes planted in the villages of Hautvilliers, Aÿ and Bouzy, culminating in a protracted, sapid and chalky finish. Although already thoroughly enjoyable, it should age well over the next 10 years. This blend of 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay was disgorged in March 2022 with a dosage of five grams per liter.

96pts Wine Spectator

A lovely rosé Champagne that waltzes gracefully across the palate, belying the concentrated range of macerated raspberry and strawberry, candied blood orange peel, toast and saffron notes carried on the elegant, satiny mousse. Long and fresh, with minerally smoke and oyster shell accents on the focused finish. Drink now through 2035.

95pts Tasting Panel

The initially delicate mousse builds in terms of assertiveness. Notes of golden raisin, apricot, pomegranate and strawberry are laced with nougat and brioche. While this rose shows plenty of tension layered with deep, ripe fruit notes, it remains light and ethereal. Red floral tones and citrus zest appear on the long finish.

Tasting Notes

After fleeting aromas of rose, orange oil and saffron, the bouquet becomes warmer, dominated by red fruit – raspberry and cherry – then somber touches of cassis and fig. Sweetness ultimately triumphs, with notes of gingerbread and licorice. The fruit is majestic, ripe, fleshy and profound. After a markedly smooth and round initial mouthfeel, the wine nestles in the heart of the palate, settling with a sort of intimately intense caress. The power is contained, and the dominant impression is consistency. Sapid sensations converge and persist, leaving the memory of their tactile imprint.

Dom Pérignon Rosé 2009 is radiant, its fruit appears with all its majesty, round, rich and generous. The wine displays all the aromatic nuances of Pinot Noir - raspberry, fig, strawberry and cherry - exacerbated by the delicacy, mineral elegance and light notes of chardonnay.

The combination of iodine and vegetable products, weever fish, sea urchins, turnip greens, sumac or artichoke, is perfect to feel the duality of the wine, to bring out the aromatic nuances of the wine. Ingredients like sea Urchins, pork belly, kale or chilli pepper will reveal the lines of the wine: its acidity and tannic structure, hidden behind its fruit.

Winemaker Notes

Warm, dry and sunny, the summer of 2009 was emblematic of this vintage, where the grapes expressed their full majesty, maturity and richness. It reveals Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2009 exactly as it is, intimate and caressing, a true embodiment of fruit.

It reflects a deep impulse to question everything, to embrace risk, experiment freely and to always go further. Dom Pérignon Rosé expresses this timeless desire to explore the edge, harnessing the raw power of the red of the pinot noir grape in a radiant assemblage. Tempered by a slow, masterful transformation during nearly 12 years in the cellar, Dom Pérignon Rosé is a vibrant incarnation of both light and darkness. It embodies dedication to creation as the radical exploration of new possibilities.

Winery Notes

In 1668, Dom Pierre Pérignon, a Benedictine monk, was appointed procurator at the Abbey of Hautvillers.  At a time when everything was guided by empirical methods, Dom Pierre Pérignon developed revolutionary techniques for viticulture and winemaking based on precise rules.

Father Pérignon modernized the abbey, restored its vineyard, and set about to make "the best wine in the world". The "wine of Father Pérignon" became one of the most sought-after wines in France. It was served at Versailles and enjoyed by none other than Louis XIV.

Profoundly inspired, his vision revolutionized winemaking with standards that remain at the heart of all champagne wines today. The legacy of Dom Pierre Pérignon continues to nourish Dom Pérignon's creative vision.
