96pts James Suckling

A fragrant nose of blackberries, dark plums, melon, dried thyme, undergrowth, sandalwood, baking spices and lavender. Full-bodied with polished tannins. Ample, balanced and velvety with lovely purity of fruit. So much juicy and aromatic dark fruit. Long, spicy finish. Vegan. Drink from 2024.

93pts Vinous

The 2019 Malbec Mai comes from an old vineyard in Vistalba, Luján de Cuyo. It was aged for 18 months in half-new, 500-liter barrels. Purple with a reddish sheen. The nose presents clear aromas of ripe plum, violet, dark and red fruit, cinnamon and cedar, with faint balsamic notes. On the palate, the tannins are potent and refined with good intensity. A dry, extractive feel frames the mouth along with an energetic flow. This is a full-bodied, structured red that is more elegant than in other years, although the oak is still dominant.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Kaiken Mai Malbec is a deep red-violet color. Delicate aromas of currant and cherry with notes of tobacco. A wine with big, round body and velvety tannins.

Winery Notes

The Caiquén, the wild goose of Patagonia, symbolizes the journey that defies borders and established norms as it crosses the imposing Andes Mountains between Argentina and Chile.

On this same path of exploration and achievement, Aurelio Montes arrived in Argentina in 2000. With each trip, he discovered the bounty of its vineyards and the incandescent passion of its people. By 2001, certainty prevailed: Mendoza was the perfect setting to bring Kaiken to life.

The winery was built in 1920 by Italo Calise. In those early years, in addition to wine, the winery produced olive oil, distillates, and tartaric acid.

Today, the winery meets the highest quality standards required by contemporary winemaking and has the capacity to produce 7 million liters of wine, distributed in 12,000- to 30,000-liter fermentation tanks, ideal for small batches of the highest quality, 100,000-liter aging tanks, and concrete tanks.

Over the years, Kaiken has consolidated its reputation as a benchmark in winemaking, combining tradition, innovation, and passion.
