The Debate 'Artalade Montagna Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

97pts Wine Enthusiast

Refined tannin and integrated fruit mark this lovely, full-bodied wine, which is 100% varietal and made in tiny amounts. Leather, tobacco and cedar highlight a lengthy and elegant core seething in cassis and currant, with a touch of oak and dark chocolate on the finish.

95pts Jeb Dunnuck

Coming from a site on Pritchard Hill, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Artalade Montagna Vineyards is pure Mountain fruit and reveals a powerful, dense, primordial style that's going to reward bottle age. Dense purple, with impressive purity in its blueberry and black cherry fruits, it offers more tobacco, graphite, and crushed stone-like minerality with time in the glass. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it wasn't until the second day that this started to offer some complexity and charm, and it's going to require a solid decade of bottle age to hit the early stages of maturity. It will have 30 years or more of ultimate longevity. Rating:95+

95pts James Suckling

Fragrant aromas of wild blackberry, blackcurrant leaf, pine, clove and licorice. Crushed walnut and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied, rich and polished with firm, integrated tannins. Serious depth and complexity. Very typical Napa style. Wait a few years. Drink from 2024.

94pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Artalade Vineyard bursts from the glass with notes of blueberry compote, baked plums, Black Forest cake and crème de cassis with hints of expresso, licorice and charcoal. The full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit preserves with a refreshing backbone and grainy texture, finishing on a lingering earthy note.
Rating:94+

93pts Wine Spectator

Very inviting, showing a creamy feel throughout as cassis, plum and raspberry notes glide through, with light hints of anise, violet and apple wood. This is well-structured through the finish, but the fruit keeps the upper hand easily. Best from 2023 through 2035.

Winemaker Notes

Deep, dark, shiny eggplant with touches of magenta and iris on the rim.  Explosion of dark cocoa powder, cedar and dry cranberry with dark cherry, vanilla and rose petals.  Soft entrance evolving on a fresh mid-palate with touches of red cherry and plum. granular tannins and an iron-rich and volcanic minerality with lingering touches of violet and blackberry.

We consider the Artalade Montagna Vineyard 2018 to be Jennifer Lawrence because of what is showing even more - beauty and elegance with a smart, funny, and witty personality behind it. The 2018 Artalade Montagna Cabernet Sauvignon is charismatic and dynamic and one that we will admire for the next 35+ years, this wine is not going anywhere…ever.

The Debate ‘Denali Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

96pts Wine Enthusiast

Hugely concentrated and woody, with impressive hints of cedar, clove, pencil and dried herb, this wine is lengthy and thick in dark brooding fruit. The power is wrapped in structure and freshness, allowing room for the wine to breathe and find balance. This is a good candidate for cellaring; enjoy best from 2028–2038.

95+pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Denali Vineyard has a very deep purple-black color, delivering pronounced, profound notes of black currant cordial, black berry pie and plum preserves with suggestions of charcoal, licorice, Indian spice and fertile loam, plus a waft of black tea. The medium to full-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of super firm, super ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the muscular black fruits preserves flavors, finishing long and spicy.

94pts James Suckling

Blackberries, black mushrooms, bark and dried stems. Currants, too. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a creamy texture. Very pretty and refined. Drink in 2023 and onwards.

92pts Wine Spectator

Fleshy and broad, with crushed plum, boysenberry and blackberry paste flavors laced liberally with warm earth, tobacco and licorice root notes. The finish is framed by elements of roasted cedar. Best from 2023 through 2032.

Winemaker Notes

Deep, dark charcoal with touches of ruby and boysenberry.  Beautiful chocolate covered cherry with touches of geranium, graphite and pencil shavings with tobacco leaf and licorice.  Round, dense entrance evolving on a thick and velvety mid-palate, deeply integrated tannins with ripe cassis and blueberry.

This site makes us think of Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders because it is the true representation of strength, beauty, sensitivity, and badass power. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Denali Vineyard in 2018 is exuberantly balanced by a framework of integrated tannins and enticing acidity. Enjoy this wine for the next 25 years!

The Debate ‘Sacrashe Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

97pts Wine Enthusiast

Thick and concentrated in red berry and cassis, this wine features oak that is moderate yet present, with a mineral-like underbelly of stone and earth. Granular, muscular and lasting in baking spice, tea and clove, it showcases the great site, the vintage and the winemaking all in one with ease and elegance.

95+pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Sporting a very deep opaque purple color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Sacrashe Vineyard charges out of the gate with energetic scents of crushed blackberries, black cherries and black currant cordial, followed by hints of cedar chest, clove oil, violets and mocha plus a waft of black truffles. The full-bodied palate is laden with tightly wound, crunchy black fruits with lots of earthy and savory nuances and a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and mineral laced.

93pts Wine Spectator

Plush and warm, with cassis, steeped plum and blackberry puree flavors that glide through atop polished tannins, while licorice, cocoa and fruitcake notes fill in on the finish. Ends on the toasty side but will certainly have fans. Best from 2023 through 2034.

92pts James Suckling

An attractive and surprisingly delicate cabernet with currant, blackberry and some chocolate and hazelnut. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a delicious finish.

Winemaker Notes

Deep, dark, shiny oil with touches of scarlet and blush.  Beautiful spices like oregano, thyme and black pepper with lavender and tomato stems. Evolving on to black currant reduction, paprika, clay and wild strawberries.  Fresh entrance evolving on a dense mid-palate, lasting granular tannins and touches of chalky minerality with boysenberry and fresh elderberry.

We call the 2018 Sacrashe Vineyard Warren Buffett because behind that jovial, appealing, and friendly look lies a rare intelligence, complexity, depth, and power. The 2018 Sacrashe Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon will continue to impress for many years to come, expressing secondary aromas and flavors over the next 35+ years.
