97pts James Suckling

What a complex and refined wine this is. Stunning floral complexity as well as intense grapefruit and bergamot notes. Concentrated and ripe but with a firm tannic base and a ton of wild-herb character this is an extremely expressive riesling GG. Almost silky in spite of the profound minerality that lights up the sky at the finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.

93pts Mosel Fine Wines

The 2020er Stromberg Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the consumer label, has a rather restrained yet smoky and reductive nose of lime, herbs, mint, greengage, earthy spices, and green apple. The wine starts off on a light fruity and very delicate and almost smooth side on the palate. It leaves a superbly precise and zesty feel in the very long and bone-dry tasting finish. A pungent sense of acidity drives the flavors in the aftertaste and adds raciness to the whole experience. 2024-2033. Issue 58 July 2021

Jancis Robinson

Maybe Tim Fröhlich will be horrified when I mention fresh spinach, but the fragrance is in the best possible taste, a fresh leafy expression before being cooked. On the palate this is extremely juicy but also with a kind of mineral astringency that draws in the cheeks and makes the mouth water. One could be persuaded to drink this now, although it would be sacrilege. Drinking Window: 2023-2035. 19/20 (8/30/21)

Importer Notes

Especially in dry, comparatively hot years like 2020, the huge potential of deep-rooted, old vines becomes apparent. The results that Tim Fröhlich bottled from his monopoly location in Stromberg are downright fantastic. The vines are well over 60 years old and firmly rooted in the highly mineral porphyry soil of the south-facing steep slope. They only give a small yield, but it has it all. Tim's Grosses Gewächs from Stromberg may have never been so intensely fruity and focused. First of all, the green herbal and leafy notes that are so characteristic of Tim's signature set the tone. In the glass, they then gradually clear the stage for a fruit that is as precise as it is expressive, in which orange peel, pineapple and ripe, yellow stone fruit take center stage. Floral notes appear in the background, only to find their way into the finely woven structure in the long, very harmonious and fresh finale. Spicy, juicy, salty - that has pressure and is umami in the best sense of the word. Just the kind of wine Tim wants: it makes you want to take a second sip!
