This Savigny-les-Beaune marries floral and sour cherry charm with a healthy structure on the quite sleek, medium-bodied palate. The fine-grained tannins build very nicely in the elegant, moderately dry finish. Drink or hold.

Vinous

The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Nanbartons 1er Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has a pretty nose with perfumed strawberry and Morello aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery entry, fleshy on the mid-palate with a gently caressing, rounded finish. Drink this after a couple of years.

Tasting Notes

Hints of candied morello cherries and licorice - Very supple and elegant.

Poultry, veal grenadins or roast beef. Fine cheeses.

About the Wine

Located just North of Beaune, ten kilometers from Volnay, this vineyard once belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy. Its pebbled limestone produces a premier cru that is supple and smooth with fine tannins. Keeps well.

Vineyard Notes

Savigny-lès-Beaune is located between the Combe de Corton and the north of Beaune. Many sights await you: a beautiful 15th-century Romanesque church, a château built in 1340 and a number of museums devoted to motorcycles, airplanes, etc., in a superb green setting. In some streets, the pediments of the houses bear sayings extolling the quality of the wines. The most famous is found at the château, where you can read “Savigny wines are nourishing, theological and morbifuge”.

About the Winery

The Buffet family first settled in Volnay in 1692. However, the Domaine’s winemaking heritage began in the 19th century. Today, Marc-Olivier oversees the Domaine, using his expertise and passion to carry on the family’s winemaking tradition.

In order to express our terroir and produce wines that are different from each other, we cultivate our vines to bring the soil to life. We plant seedlings at the end of the summer and use biodynamic methods on certain plots. We don’t use herbicides; we observe the plants to understand the state of the soil; ploughing, racking and bottling are done according to the lunar cycles; compost is preferred to chemical fertilisers, etc. Currently, the Domaine is in the process of converting to organic farming.
