97pts Decanter
Outstanding layers of passion fruit, pomelo and white peach underpinned by a lavish outlay of marzipan, coconut water and smoky mineral spice with a mouth-coating creamy scone texture and spine-tingling acidity. All-encompassing, immersive and everlasting.
96pts Tasted
Bright light golden colour. Layered and intense with great purity showing chalky notes, fresh butter, roasted hazelnut, fresh peach, and confit de citron. Powerful and intense with a lovely freshness paired with unctuous yellow fruit, chalky and nutty notes with fine extract and a saline touch on the finish, tremendously pure and long, a big wine indeed!
Winery Notes
The Moreau family makes wine from a monopole inside of Le Clos called Hospices Le Clos which is almost impossible to get in the US. The vines are located in the bottom of Le Clos and this wine is only bottled in the best vintages.
Since 1814, the Moreau name has been linked to quality winemaking in Chablis, the northernmost winegrowing region of Burgundy. For centuries, the success and reputation of the family name has continued to rise towards global standards, earning fame and acclaim, alike.
Today, the family legacy lives on through Louis Moreau, sixth generation Chablis winemaker and owner of Domaine Louis Moreau. In his own right, Louis has elevated the family name and is giving rise to organic farming and natural solutions to preserve the quality of vines, grapes and the historic terroir of Chablis.
After studying oenology at Fresno State University, Louis spent eight years working in several vineyards across the state of California. He returned to Chablis and in 1994 founded Domaine Louis Moreau from ancestral lands, previously leased by the family negociant firm, J. Moreau & Fils. He expanded and modernized the winemaking facilities and re-organized the vineyards, previously planted by his father, Jean-Jacques in the 1970s.
Ever committed to protecting the environment, Louis practices sustainable viticulture in the parcels, hand picking the grapes and the use of horse and plow in the Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. Since 2016, he has been the Vice-President, Commission Chablis of the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne.
