97pts & #9 Wine Of The Year in Top 100 Wines For 2024 Jeb Dunnuck

A deeper ruby/red color, the 2020 Barolo comes from the same vineyards as the No Name as well as Annunziata and offers more depth and ripeness, with aromas of black raspberries, candied cherries, preserved flowers, sweet herbs, and mossy earth. It has outstanding ripeness and purity and is long on the palate, with all its components coming together, delivering warmth, structure, and freshness. This is pretty serious wine, one of the best blended wines I’ve tasted in this vintage, and it’s going to be hard to beat. Buy it now…

95pts Kerin OKeefe

The 2020 Barolo from Borgogno is utterly delicious, delivering juicy raspberry, wild strawberry, licorice and cake spice flavors wrapped up in polished tannins. It’s also fragrant, with heady aromas of pine forest, violet, rose hip, camphor and dark spice. Drink 2026–2032

91pts Wine Enthusiast

The wine captivates, with dark roasted cherries and incense, carrying a mélange of spices seemingly suspended in the glass. A hint of forest floor and dried leaves adds depth to the bouquet. A concentrated palate where the flavors of black cherries macerated in spirits dominate, accented by nuances of worn leather, tea leaves, and dried herbs. Fine tannins provide a structured finish to this complex ensemble.

Winemaker Notes

The wine is ruby red in color. It has a spicy nose reminiscent of pepper and licorice. Dry taste and persistent tannins.

Delicious with main courses of meat, braised meat, bacon and aged cheeses.

About the Vineyard

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli is considered a dynasty of Barolo. This historic house prides itself as being a harbinger of the traditional style. The estate was founded in 1761, although today the family cites 1848 as the date of official establishment, coinciding with a document dated 1848 that attests to Borgogno’s first wine sale. The vineyards, approximately 50 acres (20.25 ha) thereof, are found in the greatest sites within the Barolo commune including Liste, San Pietro delle Viole and Rue.
