92pts Vinous
The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with a darkly alluring blend of sweet herbs, menthol and tobacco complicating dried cherries and currants. This is an elegant and seductive effort with velvety textures and depths of ripe red and black fruits underscored by saline minerals and spice. It finishes structured and long, showing significantly more depth than the average 2021 Rosso. It ends with fine-grained tannins and a balsamic tinge.
91pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Mastrojanni 2021 Rosso di Montalcino has pretty fruit over an accessible style with sweet cherry, redcurrant, toasted almond, dragon fruit and a hint of wet asphalt. The wine pumps on two fronts with a sweet fruity side and a husky side of walnut or chestnut hull. Some 40,000 bottles were made.
90pts Wine Spectator
Fresh, with cherry, plum and earth flavors, this red shows breadth and a vibrant structure. Harmonious and ready to enjoy, with a firm, lingering finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,300 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.
Winemaker Notes
The brilliant ruby color introduces an ample and articulated aroma with fruity notes of cherry and ripe plums, rich spicy fragrances and delicate balsamic hints. On the palate an enveloping and round entrance, with a tight tannic texture and a juicy and fresh acidity, widens up to a savory and pleasantly long finish.
Pair with all courses of a meal, the perfect enhancement for grilled red meats.
