92pts Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of red fruit are cut by earthy herbs and scorched soil on the nose of this bottling from a historic vineyard. The palate is very enjoyable, offering boysenberry pudding, caramel, clove cream and light pepper flavors.

90pts Wine Spectator

This Zin shows torque and concentration, offering brooding blackberry and cherry flavors that take on licorice, tar and Asian spice accents as this finishes with potent tannins.

Tasting Notes

This wine is stunningly vivid and expressive. Intense flavors of ripe plum and dark cherry are enhanced by notes of licorice, coriander spice and black pepper. The rich, velvety texture is supported by a supple structure with a lively acidity that lingers on the finish.

Vineyard Notes

Dusi Vineyard is found on the west side of Paso Robles—an expanse of undulating hills bathed in sunshine. Two generations since the Dusi family first planted Zinfandel in 1945, the family continues to farm together in their traditional, hands-on approach. BACA is sourced from the dry-farmed, head-trained vines planted in the 1980s. They are impressively resilient in limiting, rocky, alluvial soil. The fruit matures under the greatest diurnal temperature variation of all Californian AVAs, retaining vibrant acidity and developing an intense berry profile distinguished by notes of black pepper and licorice.

About BACA

When we set out to create BACA, we had one mission in mind: to make luxury, craft Zinfandels that are nuanced, honest, and current. Wine for people like us: the curious, the adventuresome, the lovers of life, with a gleam in their eye and a penchant for the uncharted.

BACA is Latin for berry, so that’s where we started. Bounding headlong into some of California’s most noted growing regions—Calistoga, Russian River, Rockpile, Howell Mountain, and Paso Robles—we sourced the most intriguing fruit for our wines. Grapes from gorgeously old vines and historic areas, which we transformed using masterful winemaking techniques into wines that reflect the unique places in which they’re grown. The result is 8 complex, charismatic Zinfandels, and a few other delectable curveballs. All of which pair beautifully well with both food and adventure.

Blend: 95% Zinfandel, 3% Carignan, and 2% Petite Sirah
