98pts James Suckling - #79 Top 100 Wines of France 2024
A focused, dense, scented and well-structured Chateau de Beaucastel. The nose shows aromas of wild berries, dried thyme, Mediterranean herbs, warm earth and baking spices. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins. Solid structure at this stage, but all in control. Driven, textural and layered. There is a seductive stream of berries at the center and plenty of verve, with herbs and spices mingling harmoniously. Long finish. Best from 2027.
98pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Hommage à Jacques Perrin from Château de Beaucastel is a spectacular and immense wine, representing a great evolution of this cuvée toward increased finesse and precision over the years. It exhibits a complex, elegant bouquet of mulberries, lilac, smoke, spices, wild strawberries and dark cherries. Full-bodied, concentrated and dense, it delivers multidimensional depth at its core, controlled power and structured but velvety tannins with precise, seamless texture, culminating in a long, mineral, penetrating finish. This blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Counoise is a testament to its perfect adaptation to climate change. It is a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts.

Lastly, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is another 2022 that has some resemblance to this estate’s 2009. It just screams Mourvèdre with its wild aromatics of bloody red and blue fruits, herbes de Provence, rare meat, and peppery, spicy nuances. These all carry to a full-bodied yet still balanced, elegant 2022 that stays focused and precise on the palate, with building tannins and a salty finish that makes you salivate. I know there's a tendency to hide these away and think that they're never ready to drink, but they offer incredible pleasure with just short-term cellaring, and this will be no exception.
97pts Vinous
The 2022 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin is on track to rank alongside the spectacular 2020. This year, the final blend is 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache and the remainder equally split between Syrah and Counoise. The magnificent result bursts with intense spice box, licorice, blackberry jam, blackcurrant, crushed flowers, forest strawberry and peppercorn. Savory to the core, the tightly structured 2022 is an ambitious Hommage a Jacques Perrin that walks off the stage with an expansive finish. Drink 2032-2052
Tasting Notes
The wine is adorned with a dense, almost black, purple color. Deep nose combining ripe fruits, violet, licorice, and noble spices. In the mouth, richness, depth, and freshness balance with elegance, carried by silky tannins. The 90-year-old vines confer wisdom and complexity to this great wine. An exceptional vintage, both intense, refined, and timeless.
About the Wine
Legendary wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Hommage à Jacques Perrin from Château de Beaucastel is among the greatest wines in the world. It brilliantly embodies the credo of the Perrin Family "A Grand Vin is emotion and civilization, a myth that endures beyond time". The first vintage of this prestigious cuvée was born in 1989. Produced in very limited quantities, the Hommage à Jacques Perrin cuvée comes from a unique terroir of rolled pebbles on clay-limestone and silty soils in an exceptional vineyard located at the northern limit of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the Rhône Valley.
Winery Notes
Château de Beaucastel is a magical place, surrounded by hills planted with vines, hundred-year-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Here nature is blooming, liberated and at ease. Ancient vines with knotted roots are nurtured in the traditional "gobelet" style in the soil typical of the region, laden with large round pebbles. When the Mistral blows - the legendary wind from the Alps - it whistles downthe Rhône Valley cooling the vines and revealing aromas of Garrigue. It has the Southern accent of those who live here at one with the Mediterranean climate. It's on these ancestral soils, supporting the 13 grape varieties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, that each new vintage of Beaucastel is born.
