The Château Grand Puy Ducasse 2014 has a clean and pure bouquet: cedar and tobacco marrying nicely with the black fruit, though it needs a little more thrust. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple, fleshy, coconut-tinged entry. The oak needs to be better integrated with the fruit: it's seductive at the moment but it needs to translate that into substance in bottle.

Solid, with a core of dark plum and blackberry fruit, though this is squarely built on lots of mocha and ganache-accented toast, which is firmly holding sway on the finish for now. One hopes a little purity can push through in the end.
