94pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard comes from blocks planted on slightly richer soils that have traditionally yielded more forward wines. Just about 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage is a bit more robust than prior vintages, with the concentration and tannins to carry it at least 20 years. Sage and cedar accent blueberries on the nose, while the velvety-textured palate is vibrant and fresh, with a cascade of raspberries and cherries on the lingering finish.
92pts Vinous
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next decade. Ripe red cherry, plum, sweet spice, mint and rose petal are pushed forward. Ripe tannins wrap it all together. This is an especially succulent style for Togni, but it works.
92pts Jeb Dunnuck
Sporting a beautiful vibrant plum and ruby hue, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill offers a very Bordeaux-like nose of ripe black cherries, leafy herbs, graphite, and tobacco. The entry-level cuvée of this brilliant estate on Spring Mountain, it's medium-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, fine tannins, and just a pure, elegant, delicious style. I love it today, and it should keep for 10-12 years or more. Drink 2025-2037.
90pts Wine Spectator
An expressive red, with menthol, sage and conifer notes leading the way for a damson plum and morello cherry core. The modest structure is slightly dusty in feel, which lets the fruit keep the upper hand. A late hint of iron echoes, with the savory side lingering amid the fruit. Drink now through 2029.
About the Wine
Tanbark Hill Vineyard Cabernet is made from certain Cabernet Sauvignon blocks of our vineyard and is a wine that is more approachable when young.
Winery Notes
'Our vineyard and winery are at 2000 feet elevation near the top of Spring Mountain in the western hills of the Napa Valley.
We arrived on Spring Mountain in 1975 and began planting our vineyard in 1981, though vines were first planted here at the end of the 19th century. The oldest vines are now from 1985 and our youngest were planted in 1997. Our ten-acre vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. We farm our vineyard ourselves using organic practices.
There are three owners, Birgitta and Philip Togni, joined by their daughter Lisa.
