Vinous
The 2023 Bourgogne Blanc has a crisp and quite nuanced bouquet of Granny Smith and light fresh pear scents. This is quite mineral-driven, considering it is a mere regional white. The palate is well balanced and not complex. It has commendable weight, plenty of malic flavors and a dash of white pepper and dill on the finish.
Winemaker Notes
This relatively small domain is located in the tiny village of Puligny – Montrachet. Gérard Boudot is married to the granddaughter of Etienne Sauzet and has been running the estate since 1974. Little by little he managed to find the typicality of the different terroirs and for the last ten years he has been making beautiful Pulignys. Now he works with his daughter. Gérard Boudot gets the concentration of his wines from a harvest picked as late as possible and healthy. The finesse and the characteristic elegance are obtained by slow vinification. This harmony can be found in both its regular Chardonnay and its Grand Crus, each with the very typical nuances of the terroir. Known worldwide, these wines have become almost impossible to find.
Domaine Etienne belongs to the absolute top of Burgundy and its white Burgundy hardly needs any explanation. The Domaine Sauzet Bourgogne Chardonnay has the big advantage compared to its bigger brothers that it has not been aged for years before it is ready to drink (and is also friendlier in terms of price). Round and very seductive with a fruity nose with aromas of fresh pear and plenty of citrus nuances. The bouquet expands with a ripe mix of apple, mandarin, a touch of almond, vanilla and baked bread and a soft floral note. On the palate the wine is deep, full, juicy with good balance and respectable crisp acidity in an open finish.
