93pts Decanter
Shows richness and ripeness on the palate, countered by pretty strident acidity. Not quite at its best at the moment and likely needs 12 months in bottle. Should then open out and be a fine example.
91pts Vinous
The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru, matured in foudres, offers a touch of white chocolate interwoven in the citrus fruit, a subtle yeasty, bready note surfacing with time. The palate is well-balanced with lime and Granny Smiths on the entry, the foudres imparting underlying sweetness, candied orange peel and apricot towards the pretty finish. Enjoy this over the next decade.
Winemaker Notes
Nose with lemony notes, green pepper, orange peel, beautiful energy, On the palate, toasted notes, wrapped and structured texture. A precise and salivating wine.
Pair with: Fish, seafood, creamed or grilled shellfish. Poultry and creamed or grilled white meats.
Vineyard Notes
Located to the right of the Grands Crus valley, the Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre is certainly the most complete of the Premiers Crus, it concentrates the minerality, the floral side and the richness, it is a great wine for laying down.
About the Winery
Some twenty years ago, Jean-Marc Brocard chose to establish his estate in Préhy, a small village near the town of Chablis.... At that time, one of his in-laws, Louis Petit, taught him about the vine and at the same time instilled a deep sense of tradition and respect for nature. Boosted by this knowledge and determined to dedicate himself to a vineyard, Jean-Marc Brocard planted a hectare of vines within the appellation of Chablis.
As a perfectionist, Jean-Marc Brocard naturally erected his purpose-built cellars in the centre of his vineyard to give the grapes his constant attention. Such dedication together with the best quality Chablis soil produce an exceptional wine with a typical mineral style. It is elegant and full of character. Jean-Marc Brocard’s boundless dedication to wine has borne fruit: the Brocard estate now comprises 80 hectares of vines, 65 of which are adjacent to the cellars.
